Trazodone is categorized as a serotonin antagonist reuptake inhibitor (SARI). It works by altering chemicals (serotonin) in the brain that may become unbalanced. This drug increases serotonin levels in the brain. Serotonin is a chemical that facilitates transmission of “messages” among brain cells.
