Carprofen Caplets are used to treat pain and inflammation from conditions such as arthritis and other joint diseases including hip dysplasia. It is also used to reduce fever. The usual Carprofen dosage for dogs is 1mg/pound by mouth every 12 hours.

What is Carprofen Caplet (Generic)?
Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID) manufactured by Putney, Inc. The caplets can be used to treat pets suffering from pain and inflammation caused by conditions such as arthritis and other joint diseases, including hip dysplasia. Carprofen is also used to reduce fever.
Who is Carprofen Caplet (Generic) for?
Carprofen is for use in dogs only. Do NOT use Carprofen on cats.

Carprofen Caplets are indicated for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the control of postoperative pain associated with soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs.

The mechanism of action of carprofen, like that of other NSAIDs, is believed to be associated with the inhibition of cyclooxygenase activity.

What are the side effects of Carprofen Caplet (Generic)?
Carprofen, like other drugs of its class, is not free from adverse reactions. Owners should be advised of the potential for adverse reactions and be informed of the clinical signs associated with drug intolerance. Adverse reactions may include decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dark or tarry stools, increased water consumption, increased urination, pale gums due to anemia, yellowing of gums, skin or white of the eye due to jaundice, lethargy, incoordination, seizure, or behavioral changes.
What special precautions are there?
Periodic liver and kidney function tests should be performed for dogs taking Carprofen. Carprofen should not be used in dogs exhibiting previous hypersensitivity to carprofen. Do NOT use on cats or on pregnant or nursing animals. Keep out of reach of children.
What to do if overdose?
In case of overdose, contact your nearest emergency animal hospital.
How can I store Carprofen Caplet (Generic)?
Keep the caplets in a cool/dry place.

All dogs should undergo a thorough history and physical examination before initiation of therapy using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Appropriate laboratory tests to establish hematological and serum biochemical baseline data prior to, and periodically during, administration of any NSAID should be considered.

Use as directed by your Veterinarian

Use the lowest effective dose of Carprofen for dogs for the shortest duration consistent with individual response. The recommended dosage for oral administration to dogs is 2 mg/lb (4.4 mg/kg) of body weight daily. The total daily dose may be administered as 2 mg/lb of body weight once daily or divided and administered as 1 mg/lb (2.2 mg/kg) twice daily. For the control of postoperative pain, administer Carprofen approximately 2 hours before the procedure. Caplets are scored and dosage should be calculated in half-caplet increments.
