How does Quad Dewormer Chewable Tablets for Dogs work?
Praziquantel is absorbed and metabolized in the liver and then excreted in the bile. Upon entering the digestive tract, the drug’s cestocidal activity causes the tapeworm to lose its ability to resist digestion by its host. As a result, whole tapeworms will rarely pass through the host’s digestive system. In most cases, the majority of tapeworms will be digested, with only partial pieces of the parasite found in the pet’s feces after being treated by Praziquantel. Pyrantel pamoate acts as a paralytic substance which affects the parasites living inside the dog’s body. Usually worms stay attached to the host’s body through their teeth or suckers. Pyrantel pamoate is like a neuromuscular blocker and it paralyses the worm causing it to relax and loosen its grip. This way, the worm is detached from the host’s intestines and eliminated through feces. Febantel acts on the worms only after transformation to fenbendazole. The molecular mode of action of all benzimidazoles, including fenbendazole, consists in binding to tubulin, a structural protein of microtubules. These microtubules are important organelles involved in the motility, the division and the secretion processes of cells in all living organisms. In the worms the blocking of microtubules perturbs the uptake of glucose, which eventually empties the glycogen reserves. This blocks the whole energy management mechanism of the worms that are paralyzed and die or are expelled.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Quad Dewormer Chewable Tablets for Dogs may be given directly in the mouth or offered in a small amount of food. You should weigh your dog to make sure you are using the right size and number of tablets.

FASTING IS NEITHER NECESSARY NOR RECOMMENDED.
RETREATMENT: Steps should be taken to control fleas and rodents on the premises in order to prevent reinfection; otherwise, retreatment will be necessary. This is especially true in cases of tapeworms transmitted by fleas (Dipylidium caninum) where reinfection is almost certain to occur if fleas are not removed from the animal and its environment. If reinfection occurs, tapeworm segments may be observed within one month of the initial treatment.
