Famotidine Oral Suspension USP is a prescription drug for dogs and cats primarily used in the treatment of stomach (gastric) and intestinal ulcers. It also helps with gastric reflux and for the treatment of stomach inflammation caused by kidney failure. It is a generic for Pepcid. Available in 40 mg/5 ml strength in a 50 ml bottle.

Famotidine is used to help reduce the amount of stomach acid produced. It aids in the treatment of stomach ulcers that are present and helps prevent ulcer formation. Famotidine can also be used to treat gastritis, esophagitis, and gastric or esophageal reflux as well as prevent stomach or duodenal ulcers in animals with kidney failure.

An anti-ulcer drug, Famotidine belongs to the histamine receptor-2 blocker class. The secretion of gastric acid occurs when H-2 receptors present in the cell membranes of stomach cells are stimulated. By blocking the H-2 receptors, gastric acid will not be secreted, thus helping the ulcer heal.
