Cyproheptadine is an antihistamine used in the treatment of allergies and asthma. It may also be used to stimulate the appetite of cats. Cyproheptadine is used to treat multiple conditions in animals. In dogs and cats, it is used as an antihistamine and as a treatment for a disease called serotonin syndrome. In cats, it also works as an appetite stimulant. In horses, it may be used to treat head shaking and Cushing's disease.

How does Cyproheptadine HCl Tablet 4 mg work?
As an appetite stimulant, antihistamine and treatment for serotonin syndrome, Cyproheptadine will generally start to work within several hours, but several days of therapy may be needed to achieve the full effect. In the treatment of horses, it may take much longer to see an effect (weeks to months).

What are the side effects of Cyproheptadine HCl Tablet 4 mg?
Drowsiness is a common side effect. Occasionally a cat will have what is called a “paradoxic” reaction and become excited. As with other antihistamines, “anticholinergic effects” occur at higher doses or overdose. These effects include: Urine retention Increased pressure in the eye (only of concern in patients predisposed to glaucoma) Dry mouth Increased heart rate Elevated body temperature
